Gubbio

I finish walking mid-April in the medieval town of Gubbio. Have decided to stay a second night here to explore at the end of my walk. (Edit- in the end a flight time change out of Rome has meant I am not doing this...) Looks like such a beautiful town: here are some Flickr photos.

I will go from Gubbio back to Termini in Rome, then to the airport for my journey home. The company I have booked my walk with, World Walks in the UK, have given me excellent service via e-mail, and were able to tell me the transport links so I could be certain of arriving back in Rome in time for my long flights home.

And yes, I have started 'training' for the walk... Here is my blog post from a recent 20km walking circuit, and another one from last weekend's 10km circuit on Palmy walkways. And in just over two weeks I will be on 'summer' holidays- not that we have had much sign of summer yet!- and will be able to walk lots... Looking forward to it...

Six months until walking

Spring has arrived- winter has gone (ummmmm well supposedly...) and it is six months today before I get to Assisi. So it is time to get serious with more walking and fitness. Today I walked about 4.5km along the Manawatu River Path- starting from Albert St for a change.

There was a new plaque on this large stone that explained the history of the area as the Hokowhitu Maori Reserve.

Bookings Made!

It's all go. Investigated possible flights to Rome last Monday. Best option for my dates isn't direct: I will be flying from Auckland via Shanghai and Zurich then to Rome- on Air New Zealand and Swissair International. Yes, I will be very jetlagged when I arrive... Walking tour has been confirmed- ten days from Assisi, luggage etc all carried, and no sleeping bag to take- a change for me!

I'll have a couple of nights in Rome, and have booked hotel not far from Termini and Santa Maria Maggiore. Will be able to go to Easter Vigil nearby, then walk across the city early on Sunday morning to get to St Peter's for Easter Sunday Mass. Hotel bookings were already very tight in Rome for next Easter! I'll have a night back in Rome when I finish the walk. Will arrive back in time for new school term, but only just- sorry in advance to the children who will have a jetlagged teacher!

Training begins now!

Time to get a bit fitter again before an Assisi walking holiday. Used my Palmy Walkway Combo today- feel like I had a good workout with the ups and downs. Strava tells me it was 9.7km.

You can see photos from this walk on my Kiwi Nomad blog.

Re-awakening this blog

This is the blog template I used when walking the Cluny route in 2012- on as far as Conques- then for three weeks of the Camino Frances in Spain. It is being reawakened a little. At present I can't go on a 'long' walk- but have decided a 'short' walk is on my horizons. Am hoping to do a self-guided walk in Italy just after Easter next year. So training will begin...
